Welcome to the New Pulse
Welcome to the new Pulseconnects website, linking South Asian dancers and musicians worldwide. Pulse believes that by highlighting the developments in our artforms from different parts of the world, we can keep Asian arts relevant to today’s generation. Pulse in the UK is part of the South Asian Dance Alliance with our partners Akademi and sampad.
The site can also contribute to creating the momentum and critical mass without which art forms cannot shift and grow. For a healthy sector, it needs numbers of individuals to be actively engaged- discussing, disagreeing and challenging. But also standing up and shouting for the good work that is thrown up by the likes of an established star like Malavika Sarukkai enchanting audiences at the Maximum India Festival in Washington DC, or a young man making a start in his musical career such as Hari Sivanesan from Trinity College, London, who composed the music for Abhay Shankar Mishra’s Making of Karan. By concentrating on locating and publicising interesting work wherever and at whatever level that it is happening the site hopes to spark the interest of both artists and audiences.
Pulse will be building teams of writers, reporters and contributors from Europe, US and Canada. Our sister site www.narthaki.com is already so well established that we will not be focussing so much on India, although it would be impossible not to cover Indian artists so integral they are to the artform.
The site is exciting: everyday you get breaking news of our art form from across the world. You can search for listings in your locale in USA, UK or Canada (eventually, starting with the UK). Or why not follow your favourite artists around the world?
We feature the best of the articles and performance reviews from Pulse back issues. These will change every fortnight so that visitors to the site will always have new content. There are blogs to comment upon as well as the articles and reviews so that you can dialogue with the writers and the community at large.
So register on the site today and be the first to post your comments.
