As the BBC turns its spotlight on the UK’s most talented dancers aged 16-20, I feel conflicted. I am sceptical about competitions and find reality TV pretty hard to stomach these days (yes that includes The Bake Off).

With a menacing growl from the shadows, the audience’s attention was immediately focused. Prophetic chanting from The Sacrifice of Isaac complemented by ritualistic stamping effectively established the primitive nature of the piece. 

In an original score by Nitin Sawhney, Jocelyn Pook and Ben Frost, the dirty guitar and industrial electronic sounds were most profound, hardening the atmosphere. A sense of panic was aptly created with piercing beeping and the use of vacuumed screams.
